Group on Earth Observations (GEO)

The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) is an intergovernmental partnership for people, nature, and the planet hosted by the World Meteorological Organization(WMO).

GEO promotes equitable access to Earth observation information to help decision-makers understand and act on the global challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

GEO draws expertise from an extensive global network of 114 governments, 162 private sector and civil society organizations and thousands of world-leading scientists.

Earth observations are data and information collected about our planet. They include observations on the Earth’s surface, oceans and atmosphere, and come from sensors in space or on the ground, as well as from other sources such as citizen science.

GEO convenes strategic partnerships to develop solutions based on scientific evidence that support the implementation of national and international policies. The partnership:

• Organizes and translates data about the Earth into trusted products, tools and services for governments, communities and investors.
• Brings together the expertise and technology of public agencies, academia and private sector to co-design information products that are open and reproducible.
• Works with governments and communities in low- and middle-income countries to strengthen capacity to use Earth observations and reduce the digital divide.
