Today, delegates and representatives from the private and public sectors and civil society came together to support initiatives and actions centered around energy, peace, relief, and recovery. For WMO, it was a day dedicated to partnership, with the launch of a joint report on renewable electricity with the WTO and several agreements signed with key partners.

  • Unlocking Renewable Electricity Trade: A joint report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) highlights the potential of cross-border electricity trade to enhance renewable energy distribution.   • UN Secretary-General Joins Youth Climate Advocates at COP29: António Guterres met with young activists to discuss frustrations over the lack of political action on climate.   • COP29 Presidency Issues Baku Call for Climate Action: The COP29 Presidency has launched the "Baku Call on Climate Action for Peace, Relief, and Recovery," emphasizing the critical link between climate action and global peace. This initiative urges nations to integrate climate strategies into peacebuilding efforts, highlighting the role of climate resilience in conflict prevention and recovery. Read more.

  • SOFF and the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) signed a Letter of Intent. This partnership underscores a united effort to close Africa’s basic weather and climate data gaps. By leveraging SOFF’s long-term grant-based finance and technical assistance alongside AfDB’s ClimateActionWindow (CAW), the partnerships aim to ensure timely financing for accurate early warnings for Africa’s most vulnerable countries.
