WMO Youth Network
Mission
Under the 2026 theme Youth in Action, the WMO Youth Network brings together National, Regional, and Secretariat Youth Focal Points, as well as Technical Coordinators to support the implementation of the WMO Youth Action Plan and strengthen youth engagement across the Organization. The Network facilitates coordination, knowledge exchange and collaboration among young professionals working in weather, water and climate. Through regular discussions and thematic engagement, it provides a space for youth perspectives and practical insights to inform WMO activities and priorities.
Objectives
- Enable youth decision-making across WMO structures, reinforcing their role in shaping policies, programmes and services.
- Advance the implementation of the Youth Action Plan through coordinated action, regional collaboration and the Youth Focal Point network.
- Strengthen youth capacity, leadership and intergenerational exchange to respond to evolving climate, weather and water challenges.
- Promote youth-driven innovation, communication and partnerships to connect science with communities and enhance impact.
Background
At Executive Council 78, WMO recognized the vital role of youth in addressing global weather, water and climate challenges. The Youth Action Plan was developed through broad consultations in 2024 and aligned with the United Nations Youth2030 strategy. Grounded in principles of meaningful engagement, it aims to strengthen participation, improve decision-making and ensure youth actively shape the future of WMO’s work.
