Tim Oakley

 Employed by the UK Met Office and seconded to the GCOS programme, providing support and observing system technical expertise. Primary focus is the network management of the GCOS Surface Network (GSN) and GCOS Upper-Air Network (GUAN), working with the GCOS Lead Centers and supporting the implementation of the GCOS Reference Upper-Air Network (GRUAN) and the GCOS Surface Refence Network (GSRN). In addition, provides technical support for the Atmospheric Observing Panel on Climate (AOPC) and is the climate monitoring representation on several WMO expert-teams.

Prior to his secondment to GCOS/WMO, Tim was the upper-air network manager for the UK Met Office where he was responsible for the radiosonde, weather-radar, aircraft-based observations, lightning and ground based remote sensing networks. In October 2024, he marked 40 years working for the UK Met Office.
