Training Workshop on Regional WMO Integrated Observing System (WIGOS) Centre functions and tools for West and Central Africa in Abuja, Nigeria, from 28 to 31 May 2024

World Meteorological Organization (WMO), in collaboration with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), and the Federal Government of Nigeria, is organizing a Training Workshop on Regional WMO Integrated Observing System (WIGOS) Centre functions and tools for West and Central Africa in Abuja, Nigeria, from 28 to 31 May 2024. 

The training aims to equip national focal points in the Members of the region to utilize tools of WIGOS to close existing gaps in earth system observing capacities and exchange of observation data at national, regional, and global levels. 

The establishment of Regional WIGOS Centres (RWC) is to advance the implementation of WIGOS within regions or subregions as well as to provide technical support to Members and to assist with regional coordination in WIGOS related matters. 

The hybrid workshop drew participants from across West and Central Africa including South Africa will also discuss the establishment of a Regional WIGOS Centre in for West Africa. It ends on Friday 31 May 2024.

The workshop contributes to Pillar 2 of the Early Warning for All (EW4All) which aims to enhance detection, observation, monitoring, analysis, and forecasting of hazards.
