Mozambique is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in Africa. Over 60 percent of its population lives along a low-lying coastline that is highly exposed to tropical cyclones and storm surges. Recurrent floods, droughts, and storms threaten lives and livelihoods and are a major driver of poverty and displacement. Through the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative, Mozambique is building the systems, partnerships, and community networks needed to turn forecasts into timely action that saves lives.

Mozambique’s progress under EW4All reflects a coordinated, end-to-end approach that links strengthened national frameworks, modernized observation and forecasting systems, mobile and multi-platform warning dissemination, and community-led preparedness with regional cooperation. By investing in risk knowledge, data systems, and inclusive design, and by aligning early warning with anticipatory action through pre-agreed triggers, plans, and financing, the country is translating forecasts into earlier, faster, and more effective responses to cyclones, floods, droughts, and other hazards. Together, these efforts demonstrate how Early Warnings for All is helping Mozambique reduce disaster impacts, protect vulnerable communities, and build resilience in the face of growing climate risks.
