High-quality data supports science

The fourth of the eight long-term ambitions on water aims at increasing discoverability, availability, and use of high-quality hydrological and hydrometeorological data for scientific analysis, as foreseen in the WMO Vision and Strategy on Hydrology.

WMO supports Members in accessing proper technology for the generation of high-quality hydrological data and corresponding information products and services. WMO Global Hydrological Data Centres take the lead in this area. Members will benefit from further developments in the Global Hydrometry Support Facility (WMO HydroHub), the World Hydrological Cycle Observing System (WHYCOS), and the Meteorology, Climatology and Hydrology Database Management System (MCH). These are all essential for the wise management of water resources.

The WMO Integrated Processing and Prediction System (WIPPS), the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) as well as the WMO Information System (WIS) 2.0 will also advance the provision of high-quality data support services.
