A mild and sunny winter with plenty of precipitation and an icy finale
Offenbach, 27 February 2018 – The westerly air flow pattern that had started in autumn and brought mainly mild and moist air to Germany also continued in December and January. Low pressure areas repeatedly brought significant precipitation, little sunshine and hardly any night-time frosts. February was then completely different: high pressure areas over northern and eastern Europe determined the weather in central Europe. Rain and snow were rare, sunshine was more frequent and it became frosty on clear nights. Overall, this resulted in a mild winter with much precipitation and sunshine. This is what the initial analysis by the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) of data from its around 2,000 weather stations shows.
