Nigeria Senate Repeals Nigerian Meteorological Agency Act 2003

The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Wednesday 26th January 2022, passed the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) Bill that will provide the Agency with the regulatory authority on all aspects of meteorology in Nigeria. It was a sequel to a report sent to the National Assembly for consideration. Speaking at plenary, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Smart Adeyemi stated that the new bill seeks to repeal the Nigerian Meteorological Agency Establishment Act 2003. It is more elaborate, enhancing the mandate of the Agency and its ability to meet operational requirements in line with global best practices. When signed into law, it will give the Agency the sole authority to regulate, license, approve and authorise the standard of meteorological activities in Nigeria.
