The Regional Strategy Office (RSO) facilitates improved coordination and collaboration between the regional offices, technical departments, technical commissions, Research Board and other structures of the Organization on operational and research matters. RSO also provides support to Members in the development of strategies, legislation and operating plans; collaborates with Regional and Representative Offices to enhance partnerships and visibility of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs).
One of the primary functions of RSO is to strengthen the service delivery capacity of NMHSs, especially in Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, by implementing projects aimed at ensuring the availability of essential information and services required by governments, economic sectors, and citizens. Additionally, RSO actively promotes effective project management and provides crucial secretariat support to the Organization's Project Management Board.
Another key responsibility undertaken by RSO involves the implementation and utilization of the Country Profile Database (CPDB) and WMO Community Platform, which serve as a vital repository of Member information. Additionally, RSO conducts induction visits for recently appointed Permanent Representatives (PRs) to enhance the management capabilities within their NMHSs.
