Multi-hazard early warning systems are essential for effective disaster risk reduction.

Extreme climate change events are becoming more frequent. Over the past decade, an average of 206 million people were affected annually by storms, floods, droughts and wildfires. Related economic losses have reached almost US$ 3 trillion in the last 20 years. However, thanks to advancements in monitoring and forecasting and the strengthening of multi-hazard early warning systems there has been a decrease in the associated loss of life.
