Belén Martín Míguez

Since 2021, Belén Martín Míguez coordinates the activities of the OOPC, Ocean Observations Physics and Climate Panel. OOPC is a scientific advisory group responsible for the design and assessment of a sustained global ocean observing system for climate. OOPC is also the custodian and steward of the set of ocean Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) and physical Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs). OOPC is a key element of both GCOS and GOOS programmes, and Belén works at their interphase, providing secretariat support to both.

Belén holds a Ph.D in physical oceanography from the University of Vigo (Spain) and during her professional career she has combined research and scientific coordination working in several key institutions both in Spain, France, and Belgium, contributing to the development of marine observational networks at national, European and international level.
