Much too mild, very significant amounts of precipitation, sunny and hardly any sign of winter Offenbach, 28 February 2022 – In February, central Europe was frequently under the influence of very deep low-pressure systems, causing a series of mild air masses to flood into Germany from the south-east. Exceptionally high precipitation was brought in by accompanying lowpressure troughs, particularly to the northern parts of the country and the central low mountain ranges. Precipitation fell almost entirely as rain and was much weaker in the east. Towards the middle of the month, in particular, Germany frequently found itself in the stormy centre of the low-pressure areas. The storms caused an enormous amount of damage, particularly in the north of the country. Overall, precipitation in February 2022 was very high, sunshine was slightly above average and it was much too mild. This is the summary announced by the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) after an initial analysis of the observations from its approximately 2,000 measuring stations.
