Wrapping Up 2024: A Progress Report and Heartfelt Message from Dr. Gianpaolo Balsamo, G3W Director.
Looking back at 2024, we take the opportunity to reflect on the initial steps taken by the Global Greenhouse Gas Watch (G3W) initiative of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). These achievements have been made possible through the power of collective effort and collaboration.

The Implementation plan, written by over 70 experts, was reviewed by the intergovernmental infrastructure commission, INFCOM-3, and subsequently endorsed by the 78th Executive Council of WMO —a key milestone in our journey.
The newly established G3W Advisory Group and the Task Teams will support the operationalization of greenhouse gas emissions monitoring, marking another significant step forward in global climate change mitigation efforts.
In 2025, G3W’s priority activities will focus on enhancing observations, modeling, and data integration. These efforts aim to fully incorporate G3W into the WMO Information System (WIS) and the WMO Integrated Processing and Prediction System (WIPPS), ensuring seamless data flow and accessibility.
On behalf of WMO, the G3W team, and myself, I extend warm wishes for a bright and prosperous 2025. May the new year bring expanded collaboration with global data providers and greenhouse gas observation network operators, fostering meaningful achievements, continued growth, and lasting partnerships. We deeply appreciate your trust and support and look forward to reaching new milestones together in 2025!
