Hydro-climate and meteorological data support the food security agenda
The third of the eight long-term ambitions on water aims at enhancing food security as foreseen in the WMO Vision and Strategy on Hydrology. An integration of the agrometeorological, climatological and hydrological expertise of WMO with socioeconomic and geophysical data and water resources management practices is required to support food security.
WMO supports resolving the equation of satisfying the water demand for human consumption, irrigation requirements, water availability and potential water storage and provides advice to optimize rainfed and irrigated agriculture.
