The Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) guides the scientific direction and coordination of the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP). It provides expertise and advises on ongoing and new activities to ensure alignment with the WMO Strategic Plan and the WWRP Implementation Plan, develops strategic guidance, evaluates projects, and makes recommendations to uphold scientific quality and advance global weather research.

The SSC strengthens communication and collaboration across WWRP scientific groups. Members serve as liaisons to Working Groups, Expert Teams, and project Steering Groups, sharing outcomes and promoting strategic alignment, coherent work-planning, and cross-cutting innovation. The Committee supports cooperation with other WMO bodies and international partners.

Additionally, the SSC monitors project progress, identifies risks, and recommends mitigation measures. It encourages broad participation across WMO Regions and career stages, builds partnerships with NMHSs, academia, and operational centres, and promotes the dissemination of research outputs, tools, and training resources.
