The Egyptian Meteorological Authority implemented the RA I Training on "Assessment of National Needs and Capabilities in End-to-End Flood

The training focuses on delivering capacity to meteorologists and hydrologists of African NMHSs. 

Major General Hesham Tahoun, Permanent Representative of Egypt with WMO, provided opening remarks to the event, highlighting the necessity to enhance such capacities in Africa, as predicting of extreme events such as floods, droughts and its effects on the Africa continent due to climate change.

He added that the fragility of the situation in Africa makes us more keen to spare it the risks of weather disasters and climate change by effectively cooperation by exchanging and developing expertise and providing it with the best and most accurate monitoring and forecasting methods and that this is a timely effort in line with the ambitious UN initiative of Early Warnings for All (EW4All).

The main document that guides the delivery of this training is the "Assessment Guidelines for End-to-End Flood Forecasting and Early Warning Systems" (WMO-No. 1286). This document provides steps to follows when applying a matrix to understand the capacities and needs of countries for establishing EWS for floods.

The training is bringing together participants from thirteen African countries, namely Cameroon, Egypt, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Libya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.
