Speaker:

Dr. Marko Scholze, Department of Earth and Environmental Science at Lund University, Sweden

About the speaker:

Dr Marko Scholze's main research interests lie in improving our understanding of the interactions between the Earth’s land surface and the atmosphere by means of data assimilation and inverse modeling techniques. A specific focus of his research is improving the estimation of greenhouse gas emissions using both in situ and remote sensing observations. He is the coordinator of the AVENGERS project.

Overview of the topic:

The presentation will showcase results from the Horizon Europe project AVENGERS. AVENGERS brings together European experts to develop top-down techniques to support the verification of national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories. AVENGERS uses atmospheric inverse modeling and data assimilation systems, together with national inventory compilers, to improve the consistency of inventory-based GHG emission reports with top-down approaches. Results will include case studies across different GHGs and countries, as well as specific tools developed in the project to facilitate reconciliation.
