Brian Cover
Brian Cover leads finance and budget, digital and technology services (ICT), master data management, internal controls and the audit coordination process in WMO.
Brian Cover brings nearly 30 years of experience in both private and public sector financial management to WMO. He joined the Organization in 2019 as the Chief of Finance and became the Controller in 2024.
Prior to joining WMO, he served as the Head of the Financial Reporting Section at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. During this time, Mr Cover was responsible for managing all financial reporting as well as the management and reporting of contributions, both assessed and voluntary. In support of these functions, he developed the IAEA’s first internal control and accountability frameworks.
Mr Cover started his United Nations career in 2008, when he joined the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy, on a project with dual goals of implementing the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and upgrading of the FAO financial systems. Prior to joining the United Nations system, Mr Cover was employed in the private sector for 14 years – principally with Ernst & Young (EY) in its audit and assurance services. There, his work focused on audit related matters of global technology companies as well as supporting technical accounting matters for EY practitioners throughout the west coast of the United States.
Brian has a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of California in the United States.
