Prior to this role, he had a long career at ECMWF, beginning in the early 1990s and continuing until his retirement in 2023. He served as the Director of the two EU Copernicus services and previously held positions as the Director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), Head of the Data Division, and Deputy Director of the Research Department. During his tenure, he led the development of data assimilation algorithms for Numerical Weather Prediction, the exploitation of satellite observations from operational and research Earth Observation platforms, and the development and production of state-of-the-art climate re-analyses.
