Antonio is a Biologist with a PhD in Plant Sciences from the University of Rome “Sapienza”. He joined the GCOS Secretariat in 2022 as the scientific officer supporting the GCOS Terrestrial Observation Panel for Climate (TOPC) and the curation of the terrestrial ECVs. In the frame of TOPC Antonio works on the terrestrial observation requirements in the hydrosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere, supporting relevant networks and data centers. His duties include also coordinating the GCOS contribution to the UNFCCC.
Prior to GCOS he worked as a consultant in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for the GTOS (Global Terrestrial Observing System) programme. Then he was Director of the Division on climate change Impacts on Agriculture, Forests and Ecosystem Services of the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) and acted as Scientific Expert for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
