WMO calendar competition winners announced

02 July 2019

WMO has announced the winners of its competition for the 2020 Calendar.

WMO has announced the winners of its competition for the 2020 Calendar: a year which marks the 70th anniversary of the Organization.

Following the public voting phase on social media on a “shortlist” of 75, a WMO jury of meteorologists and photographers selected 14 photos for the printed calendar (one per month, plus covers). The final selection was made based on public votes, photographic merit, meteorological interest and relevance to the theme of the 2020 World Meteorological Day, Climate and Water.

Geographical and regional balance was also taken into account, in accordance with WMO’s stature as a United Nations organization.

The calendar showcases amazing photographs from Antarctica, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Estonia, France, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Korea, South Africa and Trinidad and Tobago.

The selected photos are AMAZING and can all be viewed here.

It is a privilege for the WMO Secretariat to organize the calendar competition, which this year attracted a record 1,100 entries from all over the world. The final selection was extremely difficult because of the outstanding quality of the photographs.

We say a huge thank you to all of those who shared their photographs with us. We will showcase many of them on the website and social media channels throughout the year.
