Regional Training Centre Cairo hosts workshop

Under the umbrella of WMO, the RTC Cairo organized a Training Workshop on the Calibration of Meteorological Instruments and related uncertainty calculation that was held from 11 to 13 November 2023. The training workshop covered topics such as inter-laboratory comparisons calibration procedures, with a focus on devices measuring atmospheric pressure, temperature, and relative humidity, the amount of precipitation, wind speed, and direction.

The workshop was presented by a group of experts specialized in measurement and calibration from Slovenia, Italy, Spain, Germany, Turkey, and Argentina. It was dedicated to participants from National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) of Regional Association I (RAI): Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, Kenya, Tanzania , Mozambique, Zambia, Ghanaian, Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea Conakry.

The workshop was followed by a one-day consultative meeting for representatives of the regional bodies’ centers on 11/14/2023, in which the performance indicators of the regional bodies’ centers around the world, challenges, action plans in the coming period, and aspects of future cooperation among the member states of the organization were discussed in order to increase the accuracy of the measurement results.

Finally, a meeting of the WMO Secretariat was held on 15 November 2023, in which the annual report and the suggestions presented to the members representing the centers of the regional bodies were discussed.
