The 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States - Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity will be held in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda from 27 to 30 May 2024. During this conference, the WMO will host a side event titled 'Scaling up climate finance support for Early Warnings for All in SIDS'. This side event explores strategies for scaling up climate finance for SIDS to implement Early Warnings for All (EW4All).

Specifically, the event aims to:

  1. Highlight the importance of achieving universal coverage of early warning systems, as outlined in the EW4All initiative, and discuss the progress made towards this goal.
  2. Explore how development partners and financial institutions are supporting SIDS to implement early warning systems.
  3. Discuss how to capitalise on existing and explore innovative approaches and strategies to improve the availability, quality, and coordination of climate finance for SIDS to strengthen their EWS.
  4. Identify gaps and challenges in scaling up support for early warning systems in SIDS and discuss potential actions to address these challenges on the road to COP29
  5. Showcase concrete examples of successful initiatives and projects aimed at implementing EW4All in SIDS at both regional and national levels, including Contributions from programs such as the Weather Ready Pacific Programme, CREWS, and SOFF, among others.
