Kornélia Radics

Dr. Kornélia Radics leads WMO activities across Europe, the South Caucasus and the Middle East, and coordinates partnerships to strengthen weather, climate and water services within WMO Region VI (Europe).

Dr Radics brings to WMO over 25 years of experience in operational and applied meteorology, climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, strategic policy, management, and multilateral diplomacy. Prior to joining WMO in 2023, she served as President of the Hungarian Meteorological Service. In that capacity, she served as the Permanent Representative of Hungary to the WMO, EUMETSAT, and ECMWF. She also served as President of WMO Regional Association VI and as Chair of the EUMETNET Aviation Advisory Committee. Under her leadership, the Hungarian Meteorological Service underwent extensive modernization and implemented a free and open meteorological data policy.

Dr Radics began her career as a meteorologist at the Meteorological Service of the Hungarian Defence Forces, where she gained extensive expertise in military and aviation meteorology.

Dr Radics holds Masters of Science (MSc) in both Meteorology and Astronomy and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Earth Sciences both from the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. Her scientific career specialized in climate change, renewable energy resources and wind energy research. She has authored and co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and book chapters. Furthermore, she has supervised many students, both at the doctoral, undergraduate and graduate levels.
