Peiliang Shi

Director, Data and Prediction Systems Division, Earth System Data and Predictions Department

Mr Peiliang Shi has been supervising WMO's technical programmes related to basic systems for global data exchange, data management and prediction systems since 2025.

Mr Shi joined the Secretariat in 2009, serving as Director of the WMO Information System Branch until 2024. He has decades of experience in technical cooperation on data standards and technical systems.

Mr Shi started his meteorological career in China in the mid-1980s as a software engineer. He served as Deputy Director for operational systems at the National Meteorological Centre in the 1990s. He was the founding director of the National Meteorological Information Centre and stayed in that role - supervising telecommunication, data management and super-computing - until 2009.

Mr Shi holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering in computer science from Nanjing University and Tsinghua University respectively.
