With forty years of climate science experience and expertise, Professor Skea is dedicated to ensuring that the challenges of climate change are understood, and action to avert them is undertaken. His current role as Co-Chair of the IPCC’s Working Group III (Mitigation of Climate Change) follows thirty years of leadership and scientific contributions to the IPCC. He co-led the IPCC’s flagship 2022 Report on Mitigation of Climate Change, its 2018 Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C and its 2019 Special Report on Climate Change and Land. As Professor of Sustainable Energy at Imperial College, London, Professor Skea’s research spans multiple disciplines and focuses on the solutions to climate change. As cofounder of the UK Committee on Climate Change, he is a skilled operator at the science-policy interface. Working alongside scientists and policymakers from around the world, Professor Skea has a proven track record of forging consensus and has fed vital scientific information into the UN climate negotiations.
