On 8 June 2019, during the occasion of the 18th World Meteorological Congress, there was an event to celebrate the launch of an initiative to establish in Romania a Regional Agrometeorology Center for the WMO Europe Region (RA-VI). The event was attended by the Romanian delegation headed by the State Secretary Constantin Eugen Uricec and Marisanda Piriianu, Director of the Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Elena Mateescu, Permanent Representative of Romania to WMO and Director of the Romanian National Meteorological Administration (NMA) and Ms Iulia Munteanu from the NMA. This event was opened by the Romanian Mission to the UN in Geneva, represented by Ambassador Adrian Vierita and Ms Elena Dumitru, Plenipotentiary Minister. Support was given to this initiative by the WMO Secretary General, Prof. Petteri Taalas, President of WMO VI Regional Association, Mr. Michael Staudinger, and Robert Stefanski, Head of WMO's Agrometeorology Department.
