WMO 2025 photo competition winners announced

06 December 2024

WMO is delighted to announce the  2025 Calendar photo competition winners, selected from hundreds of stunning entries from around the world, showcasing weather, climate and water.

2025 is a really special year because it marks the 75th anniversary of WMO and the birth of the UN system's authoritative voice on weather, climate and water. We will proudly celebrate 75 years of Science For Action.

In keeping with the 75th anniversary theme, 75 of the best photographs were promoted on WMO social media channels to allow the public to cast their vote.

WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo also invited all WMO Secretariat staff  to view these 75 photographs and have their say.

The final selection was made by a WMO jury of Executive Management members, communication experts, photographers and meteorologists, based on technical and photographic merit. The selection also factored in social media popularity and geographical balance.

The calendar features 14 winning photographs and 12 honourable mentions

“I love it,” commented Celeste Saulo. “It is so beautiful!!!!!!” echoed WMO Deputy Secretary-General Ko Barrett.

The beauty and power of the photos was exceptional this year, with entries from all over the world. The final selection was extremely difficult because of the outstanding quality of the many photographs which were submitted.

We thank all the photographers, everyone who took part in voting, and all WMO Members who also promoted the competition in their own countries.

A special thanks to our sponsor, the Meteorological Technology World Expo for their generous contribution to printing our calendar.
Everyone is a winner!
