WMO at COP30
WMO supports the United Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process and participates every year in the sessions of the Conference of the Parties (COP), by providing the latest scientific advice and information to governments, including on the state of the climate, greenhouse gas concentrations, and global water resources.
A top-level delegation from WMO attended COP30 in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025.
Looking ahead, ten years after COP21 and the adoption of the Paris Agreement, COP30 offered a unique opportunity to take the next step forward. Belém was a significant moment where the shared vision began to take shape. COP30 considered the third round of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC3.0) and laid the foundations for the second Global Stocktake (GST). The COP30 presidency hopes that the outcomes of COP30 will be remembered as a "Granary of Solutions," producing an open platform of scalable, real-world climate actions around six thematic axes and 30 key objectives.
At COP30, WMO pursued the following priority areas:
- Early Warnings for All by 2027
- Science and services for Climate Action
- Research and systematic observations, including Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW)
- Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF)
- Water and Climate Interdependencies
At the WMO-IPCC-MERI Science for Climate Action Pavilion, dedicated sessions were allocated to the above-mentioned topics, with the aim of furthering the understanding of challenges, solutions, and opportunities for the climate change community.
