Launch of the PACIDFIN Pacific Project
Samoa
Overview
The PACIDFIN Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) Pacific Project aims to strengthen collaboration between FMI, Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS), National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), and Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) to improve sustainable weather and climate (including early warning) services. It focuses on enhancing forecasting and early warning capabilities, advancing remote-sensing monitoring and building BMKG's capacity in air quality and greenhouse gas observations.
The project supports countries across the Pacific including the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kirbati, Republic of Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanutu, alongside Indonesia and the Philippines.
The project is implemented by FMI.
