Bridging Weather and Climate: New Website Launched for WWRP's SAGE Project

SAGE aims to bridge the gap between weather and seasonal climate forecasts, making sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) predictions — those covering a lead time of roughly two weeks to two months — more useful, usable, and used in real-world decision-making. The project builds on the achievements of the earlier WWRP S2S Project. 

By advancing both the physical and social sciences underpinning S2S forecasting, SAGE supports critical sectors including agriculture, energy, health, and disaster risk reduction, directly contributing to WMO's mission and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 

The project is structured around Task Teams focused on Agriculture, Energy, Health, Disaster Risk Reduction and Predictability, which together pursue specific outcomes: improved understanding of how S2S forecasts can support decision-making; better characterisation of forecast skill and uncertainty; new methods for embedding S2S information into decision processes; and stronger capacity for communicating S2S forecasts to the people who need them.

The new site brings together information on SAGE's goals and background, its Steering Group and coordination team, its task teams and activities, and the latest project news and events, including upcoming sessions at major international conferences.

WWRP thanks Shandong University and the SAGE International Coordination Office for hosting and developing the new site and looks forward to it becoming a central hub for the S2S community as the project progresses.
