WWRP Congratulates Professor Fei Chen on Receiving the AOGS Fellows Award 2026

12 May 2026

The World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) warmly congratulates Professor Fei Chen on being named a recipient of the prestigious AOGS Fellows Award 2026 by the Asia–Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS).

The award recognizes his sustained and distinguished contributions to the geosciences, particularly within the Asia–Oceania region. Professor Chen serves as Co-Chair of the WWRP Urban-PREDICT Project, where he has played a leading role in advancing international collaboration and scientific innovation in urban weather, climate, and environmental prediction. Through his leadership, Urban-PREDICT continues to strengthen research to better understand and address the growing impacts of weather and climate extremes in cities.

Professor Chen is internationally recognized for his research on land–atmosphere interactions, urban meteorology, land-surface and hydrologic processes, and the development of community weather prediction and climate models. His work has advanced urban climate modelling, high-resolution weather prediction systems, and understanding of urban heat-island effects, extreme precipitation, and climate resilience in rapidly urbanizing regions.

Professor Chen’s commitment to scientific excellence and international cooperation continues to inspire the broader weather and climate research community. The WWRP community celebrates this well-deserved recognition and congratulates Professor Chen on this outstanding achievement.
