RATIONAL AND OBJECTIVES
The main theme of the conference is ‘Future role of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs): Leadership and Management’. The conference aims to gather senior management of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and representatives of private and academic sectors and international organizations to discuss the future of the NMHSs in Europe including topics related to infrastructure, research, services, leadership, strategies and legislation, and public-private engagement. The Conference will support the implementation of a range of WMO strategic objectives and resolutions, including the Unified Policy for the International Exchange of Earth System Data. In addition, the State of the Climate in Europe 2021 report will be launched in the conference. This annual flagship report of the WMO and ECMWF’s Copernicus Climate Change Service gives details of climate indicators in RA VI (Europe) such as temperatures, ocean heat, ocean acidification, sea level rise, sea ice, glaciers and extreme weather. The report also has a section devoted to impacts on sustainable development, health, food security, displacement and ecosystems.
EXPECTED RESULTS
The Conference will provide a consensus-based recommendation paper to feed into the High-level Ministerial Event, to be conducted likely in 2023, prior to/or after the forthcoming session of the World Meteorological Congress.
