RA VI Management Group -13th Meeting - Highlights

The Management Group reviewed preparations for Phase II of the nineteenth session of the Regional Association VI (RA VI-19), tentatively scheduled for 28 September–2 October 2026 in Bucharest, Romania, including possible thematic side events on topics such as artificial intelligence, observing systems, and partnerships.

Members discussed the RA VI Operational Plan 2026–2030, with a focus on priority actions and coordination mechanisms for the 2026–2027 period.

An update was provided on the work of the RA VI High-Level Task Team on Early Warnings for All (EW4All), including progress on a regional Support Exchange (Twinning) Platform designed to facilitate voluntary peer-to-peer cooperation among Members and strengthen national EW4All implementation.

The Management Group reviewed planned activities of the RA VI Working Groups on Observations, Infrastructure and Information Systems, on Services and Applications, and on Research, as well as the Coordination Panel on Hydrology, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, capacity development, and knowledge exchange.

Members welcomed the appointment of Mr. Irakli Megrelidze as the new RA VI Hydrological Adviser and acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing adviser.

The Group noted leadership vacancies in some regional bodies and capacity constraints in the Regional Office for Europe, emphasizing the importance of addressing these challenges to ensure continued support for regional technical activities.

Updates were also shared on regional representation in the WMO Executive Council and on the work of the Executive Council Task Force reviewing adjustments to the WMO Strategic and Operating Plans for 2026–2027.
