China's two high-resolution Earth observation satellites put into operation

On March 21, China put two high-resolution Earth observation satellites, Gaofen-5 and Gaofen-6, into operation after testing. They will set to assist in a wide range of public services including environmental protection, air-pollution mitigation, agricultural surveys and disaster relief, etc. In the field of meteorological forecast, their hyperspectral resolution data will be used in observations of trace gases, greenhouse gases, aerosol optical thickness, total ozone, glacier snow, drought and high temperature, and play a key role in response to special weather and surface disaster processes.
