Terms and Conditions

World Meteorological Day 2026 Outreach Campaign

1) The information contained in these Terms and Conditions is correct at the time of publication.

2) All entries must be submitted via the WMO submission website using the designated submission webform with all required information completed accurately and in full.

3) The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reserves the right to amend, modify or withdraw any part of these Terms and Conditions without prior notice. By submitting materials to this outreach campaign, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

Participation

4) The World Meteorological Day outreach campaign invites individuals and organizations worldwide to submit photographs in support of communication and outreach activities related to World Meteorological Day.

5) Participation is open to all individuals and groups, regardless of age or location. Employees of the WMO Secretariat may participate subject to applicable internal rules and policies.

6) Participants may submit multiple photographs. Submission of photographs does not guarantee publication, display or use by WMO.

7) Submission and Adjustments rules:

(a) PERMITTED

i. Unadjusted photography.

ii. Adjusted photography using the following techniques and MUST BE REPORTED and clearly explained within the description, to include tool description and version and never misrepresent the reality of nature.

  • Tone and contrast, cropping, burning, sharpening, dodging, noise reduction, minor cleaning work.
  • In camera: HDR, stitched panoramas and stacking using multiple exposures taken at the same location at the same time.     

(b) NOT PERMITTED

i. Any other computer manipulated and generated images.

ii) Images generated by Artificial Intelligence. The use of Artificial Intelligence in manipulating photos is also disallowed.

8) Photographs previously published in personal or non-commercial platforms, including personal websites or social media accounts, may be submitted.

9) WMO shall not be responsible for submissions not received due to technical failures, network issues, security restrictions or limitations imposed by internet service providers.

10) WMO reserves the right to select, use or decline any submitted material at its sole discretion for outreach, communication and awareness-raising purposes related to World Meteorological Day and WMO activities.

Consent and Permissions

11) Where a photograph includes identifiable individuals, the participant confirms that all persons depicted have provided informed consent for the photograph to be submitted and publicly used by WMO. For individuals under the age of 18, consent must be obtained from a parent or legal guardian.

12) WMO reserves the right to reject or remove any submission that may infringe privacy rights, applicable laws, or the dignity of individuals depicted.

13) Participants under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate.

Copyright and Licence

14) Any entry must be your original work and it must not infringe the rights of third parties including copyright, trade mark, trade secrets, privacy, publicity, personal or proprietary rights. You agree to indemnify WMO against any claim from any third party for any breach of this clause.

15) Copyright remains with the participant. Appropriate credit will be given wherever feasible when photographs are used.

16) Full copyright title shall be retained by the particpant of any entry. By submitting your competition entry and any accompanying you agree that WMO may, but is not required to, make your entry available on its website XXX and any other media in connection with any publicity of the competition or otherwise

17) The Participant agrees to grant WMO a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence, for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the competition entry and any accompanying materials, to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, edit, alter, store, re-format and sub-licence the competition entry and any accompanying materials for any legitimate purposes, including but not limited to publications, websites, exhibitions, educational materials and social media platforms, for non-commercial purposes consistent with WMO’s mandate.

Liability

18) WMO shall not be responsible or liable for:

a) any loss, delay or failure in receiving submissions resulting from network, communication or system interruptions or errors;
b) any technical malfunction, interruption, deletion, defect or unauthorized access associated with the submission process;
c) any loss or damage of any nature incurred by participants arising from participation in this outreach campaign.

General Provisions

19) WMO reserves the right to cancel, modify, suspend or postpone the outreach campaign in the event of circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

20) WMO reserves the right to amend, delete or add to these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice, and participants shall be bound by such amendments.

21) All decisions regarding the acceptance, selection and use of submitted materials shall be final.
