OPEN PROFILE, a research proposal submitted by Delft University of Technology, Rainbow Sensing, University of Zambia, and OpenDroneMap.org was selected as the winning proposal in a call issued by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), aimed at funding projects enhancing the capacity of WMO Members across the hydrological value chain in alignment with the WMO Hydrological Research Strategy 2022-2023.

OPEN-PROFILE consists of an open-source, ready-to-use low-cost solution that allows the acquisition of full bathymetric profiles of rivers and reservoirs. The project was piloted in Ray Reservoir, Zambia, in 2024. This technology supports the Early Warnings for All initiative by enhancing hydrological data availability, which is critical for effective early warning systems and climate resilience.

The webinar will present the results of the OPEN PROFILE project and discuss some opportunities to connect the project with other innovations, including some supported by the WMO HydroHub. Also, the webinar will discuss ways to collect data through the technologies developed in OPEN PROFILE, ensuring these tools are accessible to National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) worldwide.
