The 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States - Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity will be held in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda from 27 to 30 May 2024. During this conference, the WMO will host a side event titled 'Empowering SIDS for Resilience: Harnessing Data and Digital Technologies to Mitigate Flash Flood Risks – Flash Flood Guidance System (FFGS). One of the primary objectives of the side event will be to raise awareness about the dangers of flash floods among individuals in SIDS, empowering them with knowledge and strategies to protect themselves and their communities, thus enhancing resilience. Additionally, the aim is to foster collaboration among SIDS countries that have already implemented FFGS, facilitating the exchange of experiences, best practices, and challenges encountered in developing and maintaining effective early warning systems for flash floods.
